What is the best way to ventilate an attic for energy efficiency?

The most energy-efficient attic ventilation is a balanced system: continuous soffit intake paired with a ridge vent exhaust. Combine this with proper insulation and air sealing so winter heat and moisture stay out of the attic and summer heat can exit naturally. Use power attic fans only if soffit/gable intake is open and the attic is well air-sealed; otherwise they can pull conditioned air from the home. We include attic checks during roof inspections.
